Effect of TiC Particle Size on Processing, Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of an Inconel 718/TiC Composite Material Made by Binder Jetting Additive Manufacturing

In this paper, the effect of TiC particle size on microstructure and mechanical properties an Inconel 718/TiC composite material fabricated using binder jetting additive manufacturing was investigated. Vacuum sintering, hot isostatic pressing heat treatment as post-processing were applied to samples. The addition 1 wt% micron-sized 718 matrix resulted in a significant increase strength relative elongation during tensile tests at both room temperature 700 °C. distribution particles uniform, MC phase precipitated after HT located along grain boundaries near particles, which contributed strengthening. hardness increased insignificantly with TiC. nano-sized added surfaces initial powders, obstructed sintering porous structure and, consequently, low properties.
